Hey guys! Self-care is different for everyone, but I wanted to share a few things that help me ground after coming down from a panic attack. I hope these help ❤
- Drink water! Your body has just been through a tremendous amount of stress after releasing so much adrenaline. Literally every function in your body requires water, and you are likely dehydrated after panicking
- Get into your softest clothes. I don’t care if it’s the middle of the day. Trust me.
- Have a little something to eat, if you can manage it. Again, your body has been through a lot. My favorites are fruit or crackers.
- Sleepytime tea is great for helping me relax. If you don’t have sleepytime, some others that work well for me are chamomile or lemon balm (please be sure that these don’t interact with any of your meds!)
- Sleep. You are likely exhausted, and it’s okay to take a nap or just go to bed if it’s evening
- Listen to calming music. I really like the peaceful piano playlist on Spotify.
- Get outside. Fresh air helps me to reset.
- Pet your cat, hug your dog, hold a stuffed animal
- Read something. I personally gravitate towards novels as they are a good distraction and can take me out of my head.
- Take a bath or a shower. Rinse off the day. Picture all of your anxiety going down the drain as you do so
It’s important to care for yourself after a panic attack. They are taxing emotionally and physically! Self care is paramount.
Be well ❤
