Greg and Rose

enlightened-introvert:

If the popular theory surrounding this image from the promo is true, then Pink was born from a meteor that crashed into Homeworld’s surface. Greg sings a whole song–right before they meet, no less–about being “like a comet.”

Rose has a star cutout on her dress, exposing her gem. Greg’s gimmick is space, he changed his last name to “Universe,” and the shirt he wears in his younger days has a big star on the front of it. Steven’s shirt is also a sort of combination between the two (with a leaning toward Greg), with a big star on a red, almost pink, background (rather than black, like the one Greg wore).

White Diamond refers to “Pink” as “Starlight.” Marty refers to Greg as “Star child.” In what little we’ve seen of Marty, and even less of White, it seems they both take on a sort of parent/mentor-like roll over Greg and Pink, only to be directly or indirectly rebelled against.

In A Single Pale Rose, Rose expressed that “Blue and Yellow don’t care. They never have.” This was her reason for cutting off ties with them entirely and faking her shattering (as well as to end the war). She changed her name, identity, and appearance, destroying all connections with her past life (even making Pearl phsyically incapable of talking about it).

In The Big Show, Greg told Sadie: “back in the day, my parents didn’t want anything to do with my music. They thought I was throwing my life away. They never came to one of my shows. They never even wanted to hear about them.” This is presumably what led to him drop out of college, change his name, and travel across the country in a van.

Rose went on to fight a terrible failure of a war and made whole slew of mistakes that eventually led her to meeting Greg.Greg performed flop shows to make his skeevy manager a quick buck until he ended up in Beach City, where he met Rose.

It’s obvious that Rose saw something in Greg that wasn’t in the other humans she associated with, because he was the one she decided to have a child with, effectively ending her existence. Even though they both withheld a large portion of their pasts from one another (Rose didn’t tell him about Pink Diamond and Greg didn’t tell her about Gregory DeMayo), once they started opening up about their feelings, they found someone that they could relate with.
