I didn’t mind last night’s SU episode, because, like you said, it’s the calm before the storm. Plus the watermelon people are often used to foreshadow stuff or kinda pantomime the current situation.

I agree! The watermelon peeps held a lot of foreshadowing within their story when we looked back to them, so it wouldn’t surprise me if after the next ep we realize the same is true of this episode.

Also, I think thematically… the watermelon peeps are an interesting juxtaposition to the pebbles. Both were brought to life by Steven/Pink Diamond’s power, both are sentient creatures. The difference is that the pebbles’ development are stunted under the Diamonds’ regime, but the watermelons have created a flourishing, independent society on Earth. Just another example of what could be possible if it weren’t for the imperialism of the Diamonds.
