I noticed this with Blue and Yellow, but after seeing White and Steven (and White kinda confirmed it herself), I think it’s safe to say that the Diamonds are like foils to one another based on their position on the emblem.
Yellow and Blue keep each other in line. Blue is the emotions, and sometimes she gets lost in them. Yellow is the logic, and sometimes she gets trapped by it. Blue makes Yellow feel, and Yellow keeps Blue’s emotions from taking her over. They keep each other in check.
Then there’s White and Pink/Steven. White is serious, emotionless, and the embodiment of perfection. Pink is childish, very emotional, and though she is flawed, that is what makes her her. White surrounds herself with perfect things, and Pink surrounds herself with imperfect things. They were most likely supposed to keep each other in line as well with Pink getting White to accept her flaws as a part of her and White helping Pink control her more troublesome ones, but something went wrong.
White didn’t conform to Pink’s influence like she was supposed to. She’s supposed to be perfect after all, and when she realized she was letting herself become ‘flawed’ by Pink’s ways, she holed herself up and began putting more pressure on everyone to be perfect in every way. Pink wasn’t taken seriously so she was unable to get anyone, especially White, back in order, and everything just fell apart. The balance was broken.
In Change Your Mind, the balance is finally restored. White finally begins to accept Pink’s influence, and her mask breaks. We see that she’s rather insecure and stressed over the thought of being flawed in any fashion, and she finally begins to accept that flaws are okay and being different isn’t one of them. She doesn’t have to be absolutely perfect, and neither does everyone else.
I'm a starting writer hoping to improve in the future. This is where I'll be posting short stories, reference sheets and more!
