I just have to talk a bit about the CG’s new outfits.
I feel Pearl’s outfit represents a new start, completely different from her old style. It’s very reminiscent of her Bad Pearl outfit from Last One Out of Beach City, with the jacket and high-waisted jeans with the shirt tucked in, but it fits her specific style much better. She’s a modern rebel now! It’s also significant, considering that episode was the true beginning of Pearl moving on from Rose. I also appreciate how simply casual Pearl’s outfit is, compared to her former looks; it really shows how much she’s changed since season 1, when she was such an Extra™ perfectionist.
Pearl has learned to let go of the past, to move on from from her obsession with Rose, and to kick her perfectionist tendencies.
Amethyst’s new look just exudes confidence. Rather than concealing and draping over her body, this outfit draws attention to it, showcases it. This is the first reformation where she’s wearing shorts–stylish shorts, at that, with the prominent frayed ends and big stars–and her top is tucked in to emphasize the true shape of her form. I’m emphasize all of this because Amethysts problem, particularly through season 3, has to do with feeling insecure about her body, about not being the right size, about being “wrong.” I think this look is meant to emphasize a general sense of confidence to combat Amethyst’s general insecurity, but her immediate problem involves her body.
Amethyst has gained enough self confidence to look past her insecurities and be proud of who she is.
Garnet’s outfit showcases her identity greater than any of her former looks. There is an obvious blue and red element that doesn’t exactly…match…unless you take into consideration that she’s a fusion. It’s just prominent enough to clash with her natural maroon/purple color scheme. Her gold visor draws attention to her face and, in extension, her eyes. Their star shape not only indicates that she has three eyes instead of two, the way it doesn’t fit in with her hairline, and that fact that they aren’t simply mirrored, naturally draws attention.
Garnet is more stable than ever, now that Ruby and Sapphire have the security of knowing that they will always be together, even when they’re apart. They are no longer dependent on one another because they will never truly be separated.
I'm a starting writer hoping to improve in the future. This is where I'll be posting short stories, reference sheets and more!
