Empathy’s a bitch

Think of how many times on this show we’ve seen Yellow Diamond use her lightning strike to poof a Gem. When she’s angry enough it’s practically a knee-jerk reflex.

But when she fights Blue, for the first time the one getting zapped is someone Yellow cares about. Surprise! It doesn’t feel so good!

Afterwards, we get this bit when Steven worries about Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl not reforming:

“They’ll be out for a good while. They took a direct hit from me.“

Using her lightning on someone she loves has forced Yellow for the first time to think about what it’s like for the Gems on the receiving end.
