You know that little new animation that features Squidward introducing the next singer? Nickelodeon did that apparently with the expectation that Sweet Victory would follow
They were also asked to animate it a week before the superbowl. A week!
Wait, so even Nickelodeon themselves were made to believe that Sweet Victory was gonna play during that halftime show??
I’ve explained this entire incident to my non-Internet culture colleagues as “okay, so it’s not illegal or evil… but it’s a scummy move that seems to have only served their desire to get more people watching the Super Bowl.” And because I explained the background (even THEY get why people wanted the Spongebob tribute, they also grew up on the show) they agreed with me.
