q-pixel:

Some dumbass: The way the season finale of Steven Universe went is saying we should forgive fascists and child abusers! This show is terrible!

Me: Did you??? Miss the point? This whole show revolves around peace and love as a theme??

What do you want? For Steven to walk up to White Diamond and shatter her? Is that really the message you’d have preferred???

Seriously… this is like people watching the end of Avatar: TLA and saying “AANG SHOULDN’T HAVE SPARED OZAI! HE SHOULD HAVE KILLED HIM INSTEAD OF JUST TAKING AWAY HIS FIREBENDING!!!” Like??? These things are completely in character and complete each character’s arc in an interesting and not obvious way??

By the way, if you couldn’t tell, I just rewatched Avatar: TLA and I love that show as well.

So It just occurred to me that this is in fact NOT Rose or Pink Diamond.
This is not some kind of hologram, or a reformed version of Rose, or even just some kind of glitch. The gem that was formally Pink Diamond, has actually been reprogrammed to become Steven Universe. That’s why When White Diamond asks “Where is Pink?”, Pink Steven replies “Shes GONE!!”

Rose/Pink is truly truly gone forever.

image

And the reason that Steven is absolutely overjoyed to see that the gem was himself all along was because over the past few seasons, he has been having this constant existential crisis over being his own mother, having to live up to her standards, having to constantly be what is expected of him. But that is all finally gone. Steven has finally realized that he truly is his own person.

He isnt Rose

He isnt Pink Diamond

He is STEVEN UNIVERSE

toomanyfandomstowrite:

Reminder: Rose said ‘We can’t both exist.’

Not ‘we can’t both exist AT ONCE’ or ‘we can’t both exist at the SAME TIME’

no, she said ‘We Can’t Both Exist.’

As in, the moment Steven came into existence, Rose left. She’s gone, permanently. She’s not hiding out in the Gem, she won’t reform when Steven dies naturally, she’s GONE.

Pink Steven was Steven’s gem half. Pink Steven was not Rose or Pink taking Steven’s form.

Steven is JUST Steven, and he’s finally accepted himself and loves himself entirely.

By saying ‘Pink Steven was Rose’, you’re saying Steven’s struggles with his identity didn’t matter, the Gems’ struggles to accept him didn’t matter, you’re saying that Rose is literally hiding behind her son instead of facing the things she’s done when in the face of all the other diamonds.

What part of ANY of that is good?

Pink Steven screaming ‘SHE’S GONE’ was the enraged outcry of a gem who is SICK AND TIRED of being mislabeled, blamed, USED by others who think they know best.

Let Steven Be Steven, and Let Rose Rest.

Her son is alive and happy and loves himself. Her love lives on in that. Let her rest with this. Please.

I think I know why they wrapped up so many plotlines so quickly

cant-get-enough-pearl:

I’ve been thinking and thinking so much about why they would wrap up so many things in such a short amount of time… why they would show three completely new but so extremely desirable fusions, as well as going through the “what if Steven got poofed” thing, and healing all the corrupted gems, and just everything in such a really, really short time.

I think I know the answer, maybe.

This is Rebecca Sugar talking about the hard times she had to go through to be able to give us Garnet’s wedding scene.

“We started talking about the wedding episode, I think, in early 2016 and it didn’t surprise me that there were roadblocks. I mean, when we were working on “Jail Break,” gay marriage was not yet legal in the US. Basically, what was interesting to me about the arc of this whole experience was that I ended up in many conversations where it was made clear to me that this was not something that should be in G-rated content and that there was a limit on how much we could show these characters, how close these characters could be with each other. And it was a little bit like staring into the sun because I felt the toll it was taking on my personal mental health and I realized that that is what is happening to millions of children because when this is not in this content, that is what is being said to them.”

and especially

“Ultimately, I said, “If this is going to cost me my show that’s fine because this is a huge injustice and I need to be able to represent myself and my team through this show and anything less would be unfair to my audience.” This was around 2016 and that’s when I began to speak openly about what we were doing.”

I think this is when CN probably said “Okay, you can have the Garnet wedding scene, but we can’t promise we’ll renew your show, then.”

And Rebecca said

“Okay”.

And so she did.

She gave us the LGBTQIA+ representation we all to desperately would have needed when we ourselves were kids. That kids today can enjoy because of her.

This is all just me guessing, I mean, I don’t know for sure, but it makes so much sense. She gave CN an ultimatum in 2016. That’s when they would have started working on the second part of season 5. It makes so much sense.

This gives a whole new layer to the song, on which the episode (and arch) end on:

I don’t need you to respect me, I respect me.
I don’t need you to love me, I love me.
But I want you to know you could know me,
If you change your mind.

Rebecca Sugar, I love you.
