I keep seeing people talking about hiw Steven finally meets his Mom and how great it is. No. You’re missing the point. He does not meet his Mom. His mother is gone. It’s always just been him. He has been SO SCARED that he was only half a person, that he needed to be his Mother, and that every time he felt self respect, it was someone else feeling it. Finally , FINALLY, he knows that he is only himself. He can have self love and self esteem, and that is so very important. Hence the ending song. Saying that the gem Steven was his mother obliterates all of that character development.
Not to throw my hat into the Steven Universe discourse ring, but I think a lot of people might be missing out on the angle where… some kids might relate to the diamonds?? Like, on a familial level, especially older siblings.
There are older siblings like Blue who might emotionally smother and older siblings like Yellow who unintentionally hurt by enforcing rules from a higher authority (parents or a school) and there are a lot of preteens and teens burdened by the idea that they have to be perfect at all costs, who think that their way is the only correct way because of a sheltered worldview. The lessons the Diamonds learn throughout the course of the show – yes, even White Diamond’s controversial, blushing change of mind – will be infinitely more valuable to these kids on a level of emotional growth.
I’m saying this as someone who made a lot of the aforementioned mistakes towards my younger sibling when I was say, 12 to 16 years old. I only learned to let it go when, like in the show, my self-image of self-importance was broken through someone kinder and more open-minded than me. As such, personally, I feel that letting the Diamonds learn better will mean more to these kids and their futures than whatever other narrative ending some people are hoping for.
I’m not trying to start anything, but I hadn’t seen this angle before and just wanted to put it out there. Do with it now what you will.
Look, I dont know a lot about saints and Catholicism, but I know St. Agatha is always depicted with her breasts on a plate, and that’s sure something
Just a few more. This is a big trend.
Things I learned from the comments
She’s a patron saint of rape and abuse victims
She took a vow a chastity
A low born guy demanded her to be with him and she turned him down
For this she was imprisoned and tortured. This is how she lost her breasts (details not required)
She was repeatedly raped.
The Catholic Church regards her as a virgin for her peity despite the rape. (No matter your views on virginity this is a pretty interesting statement)
She was sentenced to death to burn at the stake but was saved by an earthquake
In her holiday people make titty cupcakes
I didn’t know she existed and now I think she’s a pretty rad woman. I would hesitate calling her a protofeminist as some often do with amazing women in history but she is pretty cool. Also she’s still very relevant today as women are still treated the way she was.
other things i learned: damn historic artists drew a woman with her own tits on a plate with Cleavage and prominent nip nops???
Myuutsu no Tanjou (The Birth of Mewtwo) is a Japanese-only radio drama that was broadcast in five parts in the weeks leading up to the debut of Myuutsu no Gyakushuu (AKA Mewtwo Strikes Back) in Japan. It was later released as a CD with an illustrated booklet (which is what the images above are from). The story goes into detail on the reasoning behind Mewtwo’s creation, the mysterious phantom Mew, and Mewtwo’s life up through the beginning parts of the movie.
Now, since it’s only in Japanese, that means if you don’t speak Japanese you’re stuck trying to read along with the English translation in a Word document.
Except I didn’t want to do that.
So I subbed the entire thing and put it on YouTube. (Because who doesn’t want to spend a month using Windows Movie Maker for obscure Pokemon stuff, right?) I made some (mostly nit-picky) edits to the grammar and did my best to add a few lines that were untranslated, but for the most part I just added it as subtitles. I recently added updated versions of Parts 3-5.
The original translation, audio files, and scans of the entire booklet can be found over at Copy Cat.
THEY ARE SHOWING “BAND GEEKS” SIX FUCKING TIMES THIS WEEK.
You know that little new animation that features Squidward introducing the next singer? Nickelodeon did that apparently with the expectation that Sweet Victory would follow
They were also asked to animate it a week before the superbowl. A week!
