you know I still consider avatar as the pinnacle of cartoon writing. But after change your mind I can safely say without hesitation that Steven Universe is really fucking close to Avatar in terms of how rewarding it’s been watching this show develop over its runtime
White diamond believed she was off color or imperfect because she was Blushing– showing emotions or feelings. The reason her controlees were completely white and had no facial expressions or lively movements was because she believed those were irregular and therefore Imperfect. She couldn’t comprehend that anything beyond what is exact and pristine is still perfect in its own way.
Blue and yellow were not perfect like her because to her, they had too many emotions or connections (yellow to blue, and blue to pink) that brought on their weakness.
She doesn’t even realize that it was possible for her to BE imperfect until Steven threw off her plans and actually was able to easily brush off her powers- she felt embarrassement and confusion, which was why she blushed. She recognized it as being off color, but Steven begins to show her that she needs to get out of her head, and feel, experience, see things for the way they are and the way they should make her feel.
Look at how proud yellow is of herself for making blue laugh- white is observing the interaction and actually begins to let herself feel too happy and proud too. Maybe this happiness is a “perfection” as well.
Because of the scene in steven universe when steven fused back together.
