Writing Tip #1

  • Take advantage of beats – no more sighing or shrugging!
People can sigh or shrug occasionally but it’s much more interesting to use beats that improve sense of place and character. One great way to do this is to plan out the scene beforehand and really think about where everyone is and what they would be doing, and use beats of what they’re doing instead of just making them shrug.
  • Example: maybe they chew a handful of peanuts, or run their hand along a banister, or hold out a cup of hot cocoa for a friend)

Asgore seeing Toriel after so many years (httyd)

asgorielaus:

Asgore: *in shock*

Toriel:

Toriel: I know what you’re going to say, Asgore.

Toriel: How could I have done this? Stayed away all these years. And why didn’t I come back to you?

Asgore: *comes closer*

Toriel: Well, what sign did I have that you could change? That anyone on the underground could?

Asgore: *continues*

Toriel: I pleaded so many times to stop the fighting, to find another answer, but did any of you listen?

Asgore: *continues*

Toriel: I know that I left you… but I thought you’d be better off without me.

Asgore: *continues*

Toriel: *backs away* And I was wrong, I see that now, but…

oh stop being so stoic, Asgore. Go on… SHOUT, SCREAM, SAY SOMETHING!

Asgore: *stops*

…You’re as beautiful as the day I lost you.

why or why don’t you think the diamonds deserve to be shattered for everything they’ve done

loycos:

I don’t think they should be shattered, and here are my reasons:

1. This is a kids show. I would rather have shows that teach younger generations that conflict doesn’t always have to be resulted in one of the sides “winning”, and that we can always find a way to compromise even with people we don’t agree with. ESPECIALLY when the other option is solving said conflicts with violence.

Yes, you could argue that in reality sometimes there are no other measures, and you’d be right. But this is a kids show. We should always teach kids that violence is not the answer because maybe, in some distant, bright future, it will be the case. We have to give the next generations the hope that this could be reality.

(also, like, let’s not make a kid character murder people? seems obvious to me but some people want to see Steven spills some blood real badly, its kind of concerning)

2. The Diamonds are a part of the system just like the gems they rule upon. Removing them from the equation will create more chaos than actual progress. If a society wants to move forward, it needs to include all of its members- not leave some of them behind.

I explained before why removing the Diamonds from gem society without proper guidance would just let the next “diamonds” raise. lets face it, realistically, the CG and Steven cannot teach what they’ve learn for over 5000 years on Earth to the entirety of gem kind and expect it to work on every single one of them. What is more likely to happen is that some other high ranking gem will take the place as the Absolute Ruler of gem kind, and HW gems would accept it because their minds are all but programmed to follow this type of social structure.

Change has to come from within, and the Diamonds can become huge positive factors just as much as they are currently negative factors.

3. I don’t think that The Diamonds changing their ways and learning to improve their views and treatment of their gems deletes or ignores the impact of their past crimes. These could never be forgiven, or fixed. But the act of moving forward toward a better future is more important to me than dwelling on past actions that cannot be changed.

4. I think The Diamonds’ cruelty is based in ignorance rather than malice– therefore, they could be taught to be better. They have no intentions of hurting their subjects for the sake of some twisted enjoyment- they merely don’t know any other way and do genuinely believe they are doing what’s best for their kind.

5. I quite like them.

Could I ask what your thoughts on Jasper are? I just saw your post of someone asking if you think the diamonds should be shattered and your answer really knocked it out of the park

loycos:

My opinion on Japser isnt as strong as my opinion on the Diamonds, But naturally, I believe she too can grow and change. She clearly has been through a lot in her life, which led her on a very aggressive path.

Unlike the Diamonds, her actions arent exactly the result of “ignorance from above”: but more of an expression of deep insecurities and pain she feels within herself. So Jasper, on the surface, seems like your stereotypical bully (check the way she treated Amethyst)- but she isn’t entirely at fault here. She was fed by the HW mentality, and her idols (The Diamonds) reward that sort of attitude.

Jasper is sort of… the HW version of Bismuth. Both have strong beliefs and will act according to those beliefs no matter who stands in the way. I’m convinced that just as Steven was able to make Bismuth somewhat cooperate with his plans to talk to the Diamonds, he’ll manage to talk through to Jasper.

I believe characters like Japser and Bismuth are there to teach us that SU doesnt support the “kill instead of talk” attitude, no matter what side you are on. Theyre here to show us that even people with good intentions, or justifiable motives, can still fall to the wrong path.

I know the jpop fanbase is small on here but the silence on the assault on a Japanese idol by 2 men is so worrying. Hating idol culture doesn’t mean you should ignore serious issues like this. If we don’t get this more attention Japanese media will literally ignore it because the group’s management is already making this girl apologize for HERSELF being assaulted in front of the men who assaulted HER. It’s disgusting and it shouldn’t go unnoticed.

What’s worse is her address was leaked by another idol on purpose…

Holy fucking shit

wtf??she shouldn’t have to apologize for something that wasn’t her fault! the idol industry is fucking insane!

Why did “be critical of your media” turn into “find all its flaws and hate it” why did people become allergic to FUN

Because people confuse “critical as in critical thinking” with “critical as in criticizing something,” so they think that “look for something bad, no matter how far-fetched” is what “being critical” means.
