In honor of 1,000 followers, I’ve put together a brief overview/worksheet that you can use to start thinking about your traumatized character. This is meant to focus more on the trauma aspect and how they might react, but you are welcome to edit your copy to make it a full character profile.
It includes sections on basic details, PTSD symptoms, other common mental health issues, triggers, support systems, as well as gives you a space to go more in-depth about what happened and what they remember and the world they live in.
There’s also a multi-trauma character profile here. (Link)
An example of the character profile in use is here. (Link) Trigger warnings for suicide attempts, incest, and csa. Julia, the character in question, is the MC for a piece about someone with repressed emotional issues having to confront the emotions that they didn’t even realize they were pushing back when they try the newest fad, a mood indicating hair dye. You’ll notice that in my copy, I’ve deleted sections I didn’t need or moved things around to fit this character- there’s also a few ‘To Be Decided’s there. Don’t feel like you have to be able to fill out the whole thing before sitting down to write.
Thank you to all the people who helped me look over it, and to all of my followers for sticking around and helping me create a better resource.
