I have to say, I really like that the crewniverse isn’t letting us forget that yellow and blue diamond are still authoritarian dictators who want the status quo maintained.  yellow and blue aren’t good now, they’re not reformed.  they’re working with steven because they want pink back.  that’s all.  they don’t have respect for garnet, or fusions, or the crystal gems.  the show isn’t making the claim that authorian dictators can just magically become good people

(and i think a lot of people had qualms with how far the show’s themes of befriending adversaries was going, because i agree the diamonds shouldn’t just be forgiven, but this shows that the crewniverse is aware that we can’t just forgive the diamonds)

I swear to fucking god if su fans keep blaming Connie, a LITERAL CHILD, for what happened to the crystal gems I will literally scream. She’s like 12 y’all. This is her first time on an alien planet, in space, SHES STILL GONNA BE A FUCKING CHILD! You seriously can’t expect her to act like a mature adult in this situation, even if she seems to act responsible normally. She just wanted to dance, to stand up to the diamonds, she didn’t mean for it to happen and you can’t hold her to such a high bar as the other crystal gems Jesus Christ

Ali: So, it took me like ages to caught up on the fact that beginning of Together Alone was a dream, but now that I know, I have a theory… or rather a debunk of another theory.

So, one of the big theories about what happened to White Pearl is that, in short, Pink Diamond gave her paradoxical order like “don’t listen to my orders” or “I don’t want you to do what I want” thus breaking her (Which Open Book was supposed to foreshadow) and then White Diamond replaced their respective pearls.

Well, I don’t believe that anymore.

Steven is clearly dreaming about past events, having his own self interposed on past Pink Diamond.

Look at them! Laughing together, having fun together, Pink Pearl freely touching Pink Diamond. This completely doesn’t look like how Homeworld wants Pearl to treat their owners. And even earlier, Pink is blowing kisses at her, and Pearl doesn’t get flustered or anything like that, but laughs. Pink Diamond already got to her, already made friends with her (heck, maybe they are even in love, I would not put that past Pink), already in at least some ways liberated her from “I am a mindless object and my feelings don’t matter” mind-set. Pink Diamond would not have any reason to get frustrated with her, to ever blow up and give her any kind of paradoxical order. And if she already did, then it clearly went okay.

And you can clearly see that they are both playing this game, because when Yellow Diamond comes over to check if everything is how Homeworld’s rules want, they both pretend to be a perfect owner and a perfect Pearl. They are already doing something “wrong” in Homeworld’s eyes.

So it’s not that Pink Diamond broke her Pearl and then White Diamond took it away from her. White Diamond took her Pearl away, because she noticed this. She noticed that Pink wasn’t acting as the diamond should and that her pearl wasn’t acting like a pearl should. Whatever happened to this pearl, it was White Diamond punishment. Some awful, terrible and cruel punishment, but still only that, not a result of direct Pink Diamond’s actions or a weird order.

The only part that is left unclear is what exactly White Diamond thought. Because it seems that pearls are – at least for diamonds – custom made to fit the personalities of their diamonds. And even from this short dream we can already see that this Pearl is silly and playful.

So, White Diamond either punished her because she saw only her blame, judged her defective and bad influence on Pink Diamond.

Or she was well aware that Pink Diamond was encouraging her, but punished Pearl, because she can’t really break another Diamond the same way.

The gems will be out of commission for longer than we thought!

(Note: spoilers from the new promo below)

Normally, Amethyst can reform in minutes. We’ve seen Garnet reform in about an hour (judging by the time she was destabilized in Jailbreak until she formed into Ruby and Sapphire), and I bet Pearl could do it pretty quickly as well if she wasn’t taking her time.

So why is it that Steven is still holding their gems in the promo, seemingly hours or possibly even a day since the fiasco at the ball?

I believe that Yellow Diamond’s lightning is different than normal methods of poofing, or even a destabilizer, thanks to info from Reunited and Legs from Here to Homeworld.

image

In the battle during Reunited, Lapis and Peridot are both shot by Yellow Diamond’s lightning and are forcibly poofed, retreating into their gems for the rest of the fight. When Steven tries to access the Diamonds via the mindscape, their gems are the only ones out of all the others that are completely unresponsive. So while we could assume that poofing cuts off the ability to think or communicate in thoughts (which doesn’t exactly make sense, if only a gem’s physical form disappears when hurt), it seems more plausible that YD’s powers are prolonging Lapis and Peridot’s stasis.

image

It’s incredibly unusual that they had not reformed after an entire day (between the fight and when the gems leave Earth). Especially since they were poofed during a battle, when they’d want to reform as quickly as possible to get back to helping the others.

If these powers had the same effect there, it’s likely that the Crystal Gems are under the same umbrella, where they want to reform as quickly as possible but are physical unable to. Yellow Diamond’s lightning doesn’t just act like a destabilizer, these powers lengthen the time it takes to reform (which is perfect for the diamonds who likely need to subdue threats like this), as well as potentially affect how much the gems can sense when inside their gems.

Steven and Connie might have to fight a lot of this battle by themselves.
