The Diamonds: This Pearl is far too silly and encouraging of Pink’s antics. We must remove her.

The Diamonds: Let us give her a more serious and focused Pearl instead. A more sensible one.

The Opposites Attract Trope:

I know most people are being like, ‘BLUE IS SO MEAN!!!’ but I was actually surprised how lenient they have been – especially Blue – with Steven and CGs. I was expecting she’d react more harshly towards Garnet being permafused even in homeworld, or Amethyst being impolite. It’s also evident that she is just really afraid of White. White designed and enforced the system, and the bulk of Blue/Yellow’s bigotry comes from the desire to absolutely please White.

I mainly don’t get why people feel so offended by the Diamonds acting like HW expects them to? they obviously believe that shit, as well as take it even further to ‘play up the part’.

The Diamonds’ image means everything to them. They aren’t actually perfect, so they relay on the image of themselves being perfect because theyre meant to inspire other gems to strive for perfection (which is what the HW ideology is all about). In between themselves, they allow this image to crumble, but when literally all of HW is watching? Of course theyre gonna react harshly. They cannot show HW gems that Diamonds are allowed to mess up. they cannot show HW gems that Diamonds are allowed to fuse without consequences, because the same rules and bars that apply to every gem on HW appliy to them as well.

Yes, i do believe that if Stevonnie was formed in front of Blue and Yellow alone, their reaction would’ve been more mellow. they’d still think a disgusting act, for sure, but I think their outrage in the ball came from the fact that their image was hurt more than anything else.

The more I think about it, the more Blue’s penguins comment from ‘Can’t Go Back’ seems relevant. “Just smile and wave. Show everyone you’re unfazed by this outburst.” Diamonds do have an actual role on HW (gem production, general leadership, and colonization supervision among other things) but more than anything, they seem to be role models for other gems to follow and idolize. and that part of their job is present in all the other parts as well. previously, i just thought it was a sort of side effect to the fact that they’re the highest class, but the Diamonds themselves acknowledge it as a part of their job.

and i didn’t even begin talking about White and her effect on the other Diamonds, whether directly or indirectly. That’s a different topic and we don’t have too much information in canon for it at the moment, though I’m sure the next few episodes will provide it.

i honestly hate it when people pretend like this is the only realistic way. especially in kids cartoons, shows that are suppose to inspire kids to follow their path. Also this encourages this weird mentality you see a lot online in which ‘if i told them they are wrong once and they didn’t immediately apologize and change their ways they should go down in flames". No, folks. this is not how “realistic” people change. it happens over time. and if you dont have the patience except for those who already agree with you, i wouldnt call you a peace warrior.
