In 2019 can we finally accept that not everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community feels safe at, is comfortable in, is able to go to or enjoys going to bars and that other community spaces outside of bars should be supported so that we have more places we can safely be ourselves in

I’ve seen some people say that Connie shouldn’t have asked Steven to dance/it was out of character for her to endanger Steven like that. Do you have any thoughts on the matter?

faelapis:

i think people forget that from connie’s perspective, she and steven had no way to know that white was watching.

*we* know, because of audience shorthand, deliberate closeups, and the kind of hints you can pick up on when you’re distanced from a world and watching from the outside rather than living in it – but as far as connie and steven were concerned, inviting white to the ball was a failure. they may as well loosen up and make the best of it.

moreover, they had every indication that blue and yellow were now on their “side” and willing to work with them, rebellion and all. which WOULD have been true if white hadn’t been watching. like. if you actually pay attention to blue and yellow in this scene, it’s very clear that they know white can see them.

they’re not just embarrassed, but fearful. i’m gonna make another post about this, but yellow was speaking through her teeth. she was more flustered than furious. blue was on the edge of panic – the kind you show when you know your child’s behavior will have consequences for your whole family.

blue and yellow themselves weren’t furious about fusion – they were furious because white could see them. a diamond fusing with a human. and if they hadn’t punished stevonnie, it could have put their own status into jeopardy.
